Importance of Gotra (Clan) in Adivasi Society

Among the Oraon, Munda, Santhal, Ho and many other communities, the clan (gotra/kili) system is central to social life. Clans are often named after animals, birds or plants, which clan members respect and protect. Traditionally, members of the same clan are considered siblings, so marriage within the same clan is avoided — that is why our search has an "exclude my gotra" filter.
